Join us for a unique opportunity to get together at Samye Ling or Online for our Annual get together to deepen our practice.

During this weekend of practice and reflection our key themes will be impermanence and attachment. Reflecting on impermanence, enables us to recognise how fortunate we are in this moment and to use our time well, while we have the opportunity. Given, that time is short, how will we use the time we have, to live well? It enables us to come to terms with and accept the facts of sickness, old age, and death, which will happen to us and to our loved ones. As we age, we will lose much that we take for granted and when we finally die we will lose everything. Therefore, being attached to what we have and take for granted now, health, relationships, material possessions, will cause suffering in the long run. We will explore how we can fully enjoy what we have now, without attachment.

Eternity by William Blake

He who binds to himself a joy

Does the winged life destroy

He who kisses the joy as it flies

Lives in eternity’s sunrise.

We will also have the opportunity to share in making practical preparations for our own death, addressing legal issues, how we want to be cared for by family and health professionals, and what we want to happen around us as we go through the stages of dying.

Part One of Living Well to Die Well

with Tina Gilbert and Jacky Seery

Online Retreat Weekend 30-31st May 2026

The further 12 evening online sessions will run on Wednesday evenings (19.00-20.15pm) – 1st July, 12th August, 9th September, 14th October, 11th November, 9th December 2026, 13th January, 10th February, 10th March, 14th April, 5th May and 9th June 2027.

Why might you want to do this course?

It might seem like a difficult topic to tackle. However there are two main reasons why this course will be of benefit to you.

First – How can we learn to live our lives more joyfully, and navigate life’s challenges more easily so that we can say we have truly lived every minute of our lives?

Second – Inevitably we will be faced with the death of someone we know or love. This course will provide some insights and practices to help us cope better with these events when we are faced with them.

Course Details:

Price: £370.00 payable in five monthly instalments of £74.00 (for part one and the twelve online sessions) or £185.00 for part one only.

Times: 10.00- 17.00pm on Saturday and 10.00am- 17.00pm on Sunday for the online weekend and 19.00pm-20.15pm for the monthly online sessions.

Location: Online via Zoom

Booking: Please click Book Here

A key aim of the Buddhist path is preparation for death, but what about those of us who are mindfulness practitioners? How do we prepare for our death and for the death of our loved ones? How can we support each other in the processes involved at the end of life? In this course we will explore how we can live well so as to prepare for a good death, without fear or regret. Our practice will be based around loving kindness, tonglen, imagination practices and open awareness. By becoming more mindful and compassionate in our approach to death, we can support ourselves and others when faced with end of life. As we become more mindful, we will be able to recognise the stages of death more easily and introduce practices to best support the transition. We will also explore fear of death, fear of pain and moving from regret and resentment towards forgiveness.

We expect that this course will then be followed by a part two, in a similar format but the long term aim is to set up a support group of people who have gone through this training so as to support each other in the face of bereavement and in due course in the face of our own death.

The course will be led by Tina Gilbert and Jacky Seery, both experienced mindfulness and compassion teachers with an interest in preparing for death. In addition Jacky has training and experience in the use of end of life holistic approaches and Tina has 30 years experience as a specialist nurse working with cancer patients.
