‘Tis’ the season’ is a sentiment that seems to be volleyed around during the holiday months. It is an attitude of surrender to the goodwill that lightens the dark days of December.
However, it is also a reminder to take stock of all that we have and bask in the grace of gratitude. To be thankful is a gift in itself. To be able to observe the positives in our own lives, as well as the lives of others is no easy task. Yet, when we are able to witness the boon of a strong friendship, a cup of coffee in a quiet café, or the song of a robin as it is perched on a tree branch outside our window, we are experiencing an ever-expanding awareness that there is beauty all around us. Moreover, that beauty is often found in the moments and places that seem insignificant.
So, as we approach one of the busiest times of revelry in the year, see if you can find a quiet moment amongst the demands of the season to appreciate the beauty that surrounds each and every one of us. Sure, the lights and the holiday fare are delightful and awe inspiring. However, touching the miracle of the quiet stillness of a mindful moment surpasses the delight in the hustle and bustle of the holiday noise. It is a stroke of abundance that inspires an attitude of appreciation.
My wish for all over the next few weeks is to experience the gift of gratitude as we practice the skill of quiet attention to each unfolding moment.
