Poetry has a way of waking us up to the preciousness of being alive. It can kindle wonder and enliven the heart. Pair it with mindfulness and the experience is amplified. Mindfulness enables us to attune to a more subtle experience of poetry in the moment. When we listen to ourselves as we listen to a poem, we may encounter surprises, insights and movements within that we didn’t know were possible.
Take some time to allow poetry and mindfulness to open your eyes.
On this day, we’ll receive poetry that captures poignancy, tenderises us and reminds us that we are part of the beauty, wildness and magnitude of existence. Together, we’ll return to a deep appreciation of this one moment, this place, the uniqueness of the particular life we each have, and the humans we share it with.
This is a day to pause and immerse ourselves in the mystery, beauty and fragility of this precious life. Through mystical poetry, guided meditation, silence and contemplation, we’ll explore what it means to be fully here – to listen deeply to the ordinary and extraordinary moments of our lives, to ponder and reflect, and to reconnect with the gift of being alive.
No experience of poetry or meditation is needed. Just come as you are.
We’ll begin the day by connecting with the theme and sharing a little as a group (sharing is always optional), before entering into a friendly silence together. If you’re joining from home and can’t maintain silence throughout the day, don’t worry – simply do what works for you.
There’ll be a one-hour lunch break, with a short break in both the morning and afternoon. At the end of the day, we’ll come back together for some reflection, journalling and, if you wish, sharing about your experience.
