Mystical Poetry for Trust and Letting Go
There is no controlling life.
Try corralling a lightning bolt,
containing a tornado. Dam a
stream and it will create a new
channel. Resist, and the tide
will sweep you off your feet.
Allow, and grace will carry
you to higher ground.
by Danna Faulds
Mindfulness is not a self improvement project. Instead, it’s a long process of letting go. In letting go we arrive more and more into trust.
Poetry has impact. We often move through our days holding on so tightly to how we think things should or shouldn’t be that we feel trapped, claustrophobic, or exhausted. On top of this, we may try to meditate, knowing we need to let go, yet the harder we try, the less possible letting go becomes.
Then we listen to a poem. It cuts through our tangled thought patterns as if a sacred window has been thrown open, letting fresh air rush in to embrace us. Our breath deepens on its own, the body feels lighter, and the trust that was so elusive is present. In the deep recognition of a truth gifted to us by the poet, the freedom of trust is found.
Join us for a friendly and nurturing day of mindfulness meditation practice and poetry. There will be space to share at the beginning and the end of the day if you wish to, with the option of companionable silence in between.
